The Golden Arrow Prayer

The Golden Arrow Prayer is one of the central prayers of the Holy Face devotion. Sister Marie of St. Peter, a Carmelite of Tours, associated the prayer with reparation for blasphemy and irreverence toward the Holy Name of God. The image is powerful: blasphemy is like a poisoned arrow against the Heart of Christ, while praise of God’s Name is a golden arrow of love, consolation, and reparation.

The prayer blesses and glorifies the Name of God in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth. It also unites this praise to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. For that reason, the Golden Arrow joins the Holy Face, the Holy Name, the Sacred Heart, and the Eucharist in one act of love.

Pray the Golden Arrow when you hear the Holy Name misused, before Eucharistic adoration, at the start of the Holy Face Chaplet, during the Holy Face Novena, or whenever you want to offer reparation. It is short enough to memorize, but deep enough to become a daily school of reverence.

Parents can teach it to children as an act of love for the Holy Name. Parishes can pray it after Mass or before adoration. Those carrying heavy burdens can pray it as a simple offering: Jesus, let my little praise console Your wounded Face and bring mercy to sinners.

Why this prayer belongs at the center of the devotion

The Golden Arrow Prayer is especially important because it is both simple and theologically rich. It does not argue with blasphemy; it answers blasphemy with adoration. It does not merely lament irreverence; it places praise of God’s Name on the lips of the faithful. Every phrase is upward-looking, blessing God in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth, and uniting that praise to the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus.

This makes the prayer useful for daily Catholic life. A person can pray it after hearing the Holy Name misused, before entering Mass, while visiting the Blessed Sacrament, during family prayer, or as part of reparation after personal sin. It turns the heart from frustration to worship and from helplessness to intercession.
