Biography and devotion
Bl. Johann Philipp Jeningen: life, patronage, and devotion
Johann Philipp Jeningen was a German Jesuit priest whose ministry centered on preaching, teaching, the sacraments and care of pilgrims. Born near the beginning of January 1642 at Eichstätt, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1663 and was ordained in 1672.
After pastoral work at Altötting and teaching in Jesuit colleges, he was sent to Ellwangen in 1680. His life was shaped by the Spiritual Exercises and by the desire to bring people closer to Christ through patient pastoral service. He died on February 8, 1704.
The Society of Jesus identifies him as Blessed Johann Philipp Jeningen. He was beatified in 2023. His memory offers an example of perseverance in the vocation actually entrusted to a person and of generous attention to the spiritual needs of others.
